He entered the See also:navy in 1831, was made a See also:lieutenant in 1845, See also:commander in 1856, and See also:captain in 186o. After serving in the See also:Crimea and in See also:China, and being See also:governor of See also:Senegal, he was promoted to See also:rear-admiral in 1869. He served on See also:land during the second See also:part of the Franco-See also:German See also:War of 1870-71, in the See also:rank of See also:auxiliary See also:general of See also:division. He was See also:present at Coulmiers, Villepion and Loigny-Poupry, in command of a division, and in See also:Chanzy's See also:retreat upon Le Mans and the See also:battle at that See also:place in command of a See also:corps. He was the most distinguished of the many See also:naval See also:officers who did See also:good service in the military operations. On the 9th of See also:December he had been made See also:vice-admiral, and in 1871 he commanded the See also:fleet at See also:Toulon; in 1875 he was a member of the See also:council of See also:admiralty; and in See also:October 1876 he was appointed to command the evolutionary See also:squadron in the Mediterranean. In See also:February 1879 he became See also:minister ofthe navy in the See also:Waddington See also:cabinet, and on the 27th of May following was elected a senator for See also:life. He was again minister of the navy in the See also:Freycinet cabinet in r880. A See also:fine example of the fighting French See also:seaman of his See also:time, Jaureguiberry died at See also:Paris on the 21st of October 1887.
