LAVAGNA , a seaport of See also:

Liguria, See also:Italy, in the See also:province of See also:Genoa, from which it is 252 M. S.E. by See also:rail. Pop. (1901) 7005. It has a small See also:shipbuilding See also:trade, and exports See also:great quantities of See also:slate (lavagna, taking its name from the See also:town). It also has a large See also:cotton-See also:mill. It was the seat of the See also:Fieschi See also:family, See also:independent See also:counts, who, at the end of the 12th See also:century, were obliged to recognize the supremacy of Genoa. Sinibaldo Fieschi became See also:Pope See also:Innocent IV. (1243-1254), and See also:Hadrian V. (1276) was also a Fieschi.
