MALCHIN , a See also:

town of See also:Germany, in the See also:grand-duchy of See also:Mecklenburg-See also:Schwerin, on the See also:river Peene, between lakes Malchin and Kummerow, 28 m. by See also:rail N.W. of Neu-See also:Brandenburg. Pop. (1900), 7449. It is, alternately with See also:Sternberg, the See also:place of See also:assembly of the See also:Diet of Mecklenburg. Here are the chateaux of Remplin, See also:Basedow and Schlitz; a See also:church dating from the 14th See also:century, and a See also:fine town-See also:hall. The well-wooded and undulating See also:country, environing the shores of See also:Lake Malchin, is known as the " Mecklenburg See also:Switzerland," and is increasing in favour as a summer resort. A See also:canal unites Lake Kummerow with the Peene. The See also:industries of the town include the manufacture of See also:sugar and bricks, and See also:brewing and malting. Malchin became a town in 1236.
