MCKINNEY , a See also:

city and the See also:county-seat of See also:Collin county, See also:Texas, U.S.A., about 30 M. N. by E. of See also:Dallas. Pop. (189o), 2489; (1900), 4342 (917 negroes); (1glo) 4714. It is served by the See also:Missouri, See also:Kansas & Texas and the See also:Houston & Texas Central See also:railways, and by the Dallas & See also:Sherman inter-See also:urban (electric) See also:line, the central See also:power plant of which is immediately See also:north of the city. McKinney is in a See also:fine farming region; there are also manufactures. The municipal See also:water See also:supply is obtained from artesian See also:wells. The first See also:settlement in Collin county was made about ro m. north of what is now McKinney in 1841. McKinney was named, as was the county, in See also:honour of Collin McKinney, a See also:pioneer in the region and a signer of the See also:Declaration of the See also:Independence of Texas. It was settled in 1844, was laid out and became the county-seat in 1846, and was first chartered as a city in 1874.
