MOTALA , a See also:

town of See also:Sweden, in the See also:district (See also:fan) of Ostergotland, on the See also:east See also:side of See also:Lake See also:Vetter at the outflow of the See also:river Motala, 175 M. S.W. by W. of See also:Stockholm by See also:rail. Pop. (1900), 3047. It is on the See also:Gota See also:canal route (q.v.). The town was founded in 188o, but the Motala See also:mechanical See also:works, 2 M. east, were founded in 1823 by the Gota Canal See also:Company under the direction of See also:Daniel See also:Fraser, an Englishman. See also:Iron See also:war-See also:ships, rail-way locomotives, iron See also:bridges, machinery, &c., are built; the company has branches in See also:Norrkoping, See also:Gothenburg, and elsewhere.
