NEGAUNEE , a See also:

city of See also:Marquette See also:county, See also:Michigan, U.S.A., about 12 M. W. by S. of Marquette and 3 M. E. of Ishpeming, in the N. See also:part of the upper See also:peninsula. Pop. (1904) 6797; (1910) 846o. It is served by the See also:Chicago & See also:North-Western, the See also:Duluth, See also:South See also:Shore & See also:Atlantic, and the See also:Lake See also:Superior & Ishpeming See also:railways. It is built on a See also:ridge called See also:Iron See also:Mountain, 1564 ft. above See also:sea-level, and under and near it are some of the most productive iron-ore deposits in the See also:state, the See also:mining of which is the See also:principal See also:industry of the city. The See also:settlement of Negaunee began about 187o, and the city was chartered in 1873.
