W. of See also:Binghamton. Pop. (19zo, U.S. See also:census) 4633: It is served by the See also:Erie, the Lehigh Valley and the See also:Delaware, Lackawanna & Western See also:railways; a See also:branch of the last connects with See also:Ithaca, N.Y. Owego occupies the site of an See also:Indian (probably See also:Tuscarora) village named " Ah-wa-ga," which was destroyed by See also:General See also:James See also:Clinton in 1779. The name, of which " Owego " is a corruption, is said to mean " where the valley widens." A See also:white See also:settlement and trading See also:post were set up here in 1785, and the village of Owego was incorporated in 1827.
