See also:part of the See also:state, about 67 m. S. of Minneapolis and St See also:Paul. Pop. (1900) 5561, of whom 116o were See also:foreign-See also:born ; (1905) 5651; (1910) 5658. It is served by the See also:Chicago, See also:Milwaukee & St Paul, the Chicago & See also:North-Western, the Chicago, See also:Rock See also:Island & Pacific and the Minneapolis, See also:Rochester & See also:Dubuque (electric) See also:railways. Four See also:fine See also:steel See also:bridges span the river at or near the city. Among the nublic buildings are a handsome county See also:court-See also:house, a cityhall, an armoury, a city See also:hospital and a public library. Owatonna is the seat of the Pillsbury See also:Academy (Baptist), the Sacred See also:Heart Academy (See also:Roman See also:Catholic) and the Canfield Commercial School, and immediately See also:west of the city is the State Public School for Dependent and Neglected See also:Children (z886). The city's commercial importance is largely due to its situation in a See also:rich dairying and farming See also:district, for which it is the See also:shipping centre. It has also various manufactures. There are valuable See also:mineral springs in the vicinity. The See also:municipality owns and operates the See also:water-See also:works. Owatonna was settled about 1855, was incorporated as a See also:village in 1865, was chartered as a city in 1875 and received a new See also:charter in 1909.
