PASIG , a See also:

town and the See also:capital of the See also:province of Rizal, Luzon, Philippine Islands, about 6 m. E.S.E. of See also:Manila. Pop. (x903), 11,287. The town, which covers a considerable See also:area, is traversed by the Pasig See also:river and its tributary, the Mariquino river, and for a See also:short distance See also:borders on See also:Laguna de See also:Bay. In the See also:south-western See also:part is Fort See also:McKinley. Although built on See also:low ground, Pasig is fairly healthy. It was formerly an important commercial centre, the inhabitants being largely engaged in a carrying and forwarding See also:trade between Manila and the See also:lake ports; but this trade was lost after the See also:establishment of See also:direct See also:rail and steamboat service between these ports. The See also:principal See also:industries are See also:rice-farming, the manufacture of a cheap red pottery, and fishing. The See also:language is Tagalog.
