S. of See also:Peoria, and about 56 m. N. of See also:Springfield. Pop. (1910, 9897. It is served by the See also:Atchison, See also:Topeka & See also:Santa Fe, the See also:Chicago & See also:Alton, the Chicago, Peoria & St See also:Louis, the Illinois Central, the See also:Cleveland, See also:Cincinnati, Chicago & St Louis, the Peoria Railway Terminal See also:Company, the Peoria & Pekin See also:Union and (for See also:freight between Peoria and Pekin) the Illinois Valley See also:Belt See also:railways. Situated in a See also:rich agricultural region and in the Illinois coalfields, Pekin is a See also:shipping point and See also:grain See also:market of considerable importance, and has various manufactures. The value of the factory products in 1905 was $1,121,130. Pekin was first settled about 1830, was incorporated in 1839, and re-incorporated in 1874.
