PERSHORE , a See also:

market See also:town in the See also:Evesham See also:parliamentary See also:division of See also:Worcestershire, See also:England, 113 m. W.N.W.of See also:London and 7 S.E. of See also:Worcester by the See also:Great Western railway. Pop. (1901), 3348. The station is 12 in. from the town. Market gardening and See also:fruit-growing (especially plums) are carried on and agricultural implements are manufactured. The churches of the two parishes of See also:Holy See also:Cross and St See also:Andrew See also:face one another across a road. Holy Cross is a remnant of a mitred See also:abbey of See also:Benedictines, said to have been founded about 970 by See also:King See also:Edgar, on the site of a Mercian religious See also:settlement. There remain only the See also:fine See also:Early See also:English See also:choir, with Decorated additions, the See also:Norman See also:south See also:transept and the majestic Decorated See also:tower; while slight fragments of a Norman See also:nave are seen.
