POZHAREVATS (also written Passarowitz and Pozarevac) , a See also:town in See also:Servia, situated in the Morava valley, 4 m. E. of the Morava See also:river and 8 m. S. of the See also:Danube. The station for steamers, Dubravitsa, with its See also:custom-See also:house, See also:standing on the See also:banks of the Danube, forms practically the See also:harbour of Pozharevats. The town has no See also:special See also:industry, but is the See also:principal See also:market of a very extensive and fruitful See also:plain between the See also:rivers Morava, Mlava and Danube. It is the See also:capital of a See also:department bearing the same name, and the seat of a prefecture, a tribunal of See also:justice, a See also:college and several See also:national or normal See also:schools. It has a large See also:modern See also:penitentiary, with a department for See also:political offenders and a See also:prison for See also:women. Two See also:miles to the See also:west, towards Morava, is situated Lubichevo, a See also:model See also:farm and See also:stud belonging to the See also:government. The shady See also:park and See also:flower gardens are a popular resort of the See also:people of Pozharevats. The town is known in the See also:history of See also:international See also:treaties as the See also:place at which the famous See also:peace of Passarowitz between See also:Austria and See also:Turkey was concluded in 1718. Pop. (1900), 12,957.
