In 1876 he founded and edited the Theologische Literaturzeitung, and from 1881 to 1910 he edited it with Adolf See also:Harnack. His elaborate See also:work on the See also:history of the See also:Jews in the See also:time of See also:Christ (Geschichte See also:des jiidischen Volks See also:im Zeitalter Jesu Christi, 2 vols., 1886–189o; nem ed. in 3 vols., 1901–1902; Eng. trans., 1890 ff.) made him in See also:Great See also:Britain and See also:America one of the best known of See also:modern German scholars. He died after a See also:long illness on the 3oth of See also:April 1910. His other See also:works include: See also:Schleiermacher's Religionsbegriff (1868); Lehrbuch der neutestamentlichen Zeitgeschichte (1874; an earlier See also:form of Gesch. des jiid.
