E. of See also:Barmen, with which it is connected by an electric See also:tramway, and on the See also:main See also:line of railway, See also:Dusseldorf-See also:Hagen. Pop. (1905) 18,469. It has three churches and various See also:schools and public institutions. Lying See also:close to the Harkort See also:iron and See also:sulphur mines, and within the populous and See also:rich See also:mineral See also:district on the See also:lower See also:Rhine, it carries on iron-See also:founding, See also:wire-See also:drawing and the manufacture of machinery of various kinds, besides an active See also:trade in iron, See also:steel and See also:brass goods. Scarcely less important are its manufactures of See also:ribbons, See also:damask, See also:cord, pianos and See also:paper. In the neighbourhood is a hydropathic See also:establishment.
