HAGEN , a See also:

town of See also:Germany, in the Prussian See also:province of See also:Westphalia. Pop. (1905), 77, 498. It lies amid well-wooded hills at the confluence of the Ennepe with the Volme, 15 M. N.E. of See also:Elberfeld, on the See also:main See also:line to See also:Brunswick and See also:Berlin, and at the junction of important lines of railway, connecting it with the See also:principal towns of the Westphalian See also:iron See also:district. It has five Evangelical churches, a See also:Roman See also:Catholic See also:church, an Old Catholic church, a See also:synagogue, a gymnasium, realgymnasium, and a technical school with See also:special classes for See also:machine-See also:building. There are also a museum, a See also:theatre, and a prettily arranged municipal See also:park. Hagen is one of the most flourishing commercial towns in Westphalia, and possesses extensive iron and See also:steel See also:works, large See also:cotton See also:print works, woollen and cotton factories, manufactures of See also:leather, See also:paper, See also:tobacco, and iron and steel wares, breweries and distilleries. There are large See also:limestone quarries in the vicinity and also an See also:alabaster See also:quarry.
