TRAVEMUNDE , a seaport of See also:

Germany, in the See also:free See also:state of See also:Lubeck, situated on the Baltic, at the mouth of the See also:Trave. Pop. (1905), 2017. It has an Evangelical See also:church, dating from the end of the 15th See also:century, and is a much frequented watering-See also:place. There are extensive See also:herring See also:fisheries. Travemunde arose out of a stronghold placed here by See also:Henry the See also:Lion, See also:duke of See also:Saxony, in the 12th century to guard the mouth of the Trave, and the Danes subsequently strengthened it. It became a See also:town in 1317 and in 1329 passed into the See also:possession of the free See also:city of Lubeck, to which it has since belonged. Its fortifications were demolished in 18o7.
