TRUJILLO , a See also:

town of See also:Spain, in the See also:province of See also:Caceres; on a See also:hill 25 m. See also:east of Caceres, and on the See also:river Tozo, a sub-tributary of the See also:Tagus. Pop. (1900), 12,512. The surrounding See also:country is rugged, but produces See also:wheat, See also:wine, See also:oils and See also:fruit, besides livestock of all sorts, and much See also:phosphorite. There are valuable forests See also:close to the town. In the See also:oldest See also:part of Trujillo are the remains of a See also:castle said to be of See also:Roman origin, but rebuilt by the See also:Moors and restored in See also:modern times. The Julia See also:tower is also said to be Roman, like much of the fortifications. The Roman name for the town was Turgalium. The See also:principal See also:parish See also:church, See also:Santa Maria, is a See also:fine See also:Gothic structure of the 15th See also:century. Trujillo was a town of importance in the See also:middle ages. See also:Pizarro, the conqueror of See also:Peru, was See also:born here about 1471, and built a See also:palace, which still stands, in the See also:main square of the town.
