The ruins of the See also:ancient town are situated in the See also:plain of Nervia, 3 M. to the E. of the See also:modern. It was a See also:municipium with an extensive territory, and of some import-. ante under the See also:Empire, but was plundered by the partisans of See also:Otho in A.D. 69. Remains of a See also:theatre are visible, and remains of many other buildings have been discovered, among them traces of the ancient See also:city walls, a See also:fine See also:mosaic, found in 1852 but at once lestroyed, and a number of tombs to the See also:west of the theatre. The caves of the Balzi See also:Rossi have proved See also:rich in See also:palaeolithic remains of the See also:Quaternary See also:period.
