VOSSEVANGEN , or See also:Voss, a See also:village and favourite tourist-centre of See also:Norway, in See also:South Bergenhus amt (See also:county), 67 m. N.W. of See also:Bergen by See also:rail. It was the See also:terminus of the finely engineered Bergen & Vossevangen railway, which, however, forms See also:part of the projected See also:trunk See also:line between See also:Christiania and Bergen. The former, passing Stalheim, descends into the sombre Naerodal, a precipitous valley terminating in the Naero See also:Fjord, a See also:head-See also:branch of the Sogne Fjord. The latter route follows the deep but gentler valley of the Skjerve, whence from Ovre Vasenden roads continue to Eide (18 m.) and to Ulvik (32 m.), both on branches of the Hardanger Fjord.
