WILLIMANTIC , a See also:

city of See also:Windham See also:county, See also:Connecticut, U.S.A., in the township of Windham, at the junction of the Willimantic and Natchaug See also:rivers to See also:form the Shetuc'See also:ket, in the E. See also:part of the See also:state, about 16 m. N.W. of See also:Norwich. Pop. (189o) 8648; (1900) 8937, of whom 2491 were See also:foreign-See also:born; (1910 See also:census) 11,230. It is served by the New See also:York, New Haven & See also:Hartford and the Central See also:Vermont See also:railways, and by electric lines to Baltic, Norwich and New See also:London, and to See also:South See also:Coventry. It is the seat of a State Normal Training School, and has a public library and Dunham See also:Hall Library (1878). The Willimantic See also:river provides See also:good See also:water-See also:power, and there are various manufactures. The See also:total value of the factory product in 1905 was $4,902,447. The township of Windham was incorporated in 1692. Willimantic was settled in 1822, incorporated as a See also:borough in 1833, and chartered as a city in 1893.
