WOLLONGONG , a seaport of See also:

Camden See also:county, New See also:South See also:Wales, See also:Australia, 49 M. by See also:rail S. of See also:Sydney, the third See also:port and See also:chief See also:harbour on the S. See also:coast of the See also:colony. Pop. (1901) 3545. Its harbour, known as See also:Belmont See also:Basin, is excavated out of the See also:rock, having an See also:area of 3 acres, and a See also:depth of 18 ft. at See also:low See also:water. A See also:breakwater protects its mouth; it has a lighthouse, and is defended by a fort on See also:Signal See also:Hill. It is the port for the See also:Osborne-See also:Wallsend and See also:Mount Pleasant collieries, which are connected with it by rail. It lies at the See also:foot of Mount Keira, amid See also:fine See also:mountain and coast scenery.
