VALENCIA , a See also:lagoon, 7 M. S. of Valencia in See also:Spain, about 12 M. in length and 4 in breadth, 12 ft. being its greatest See also:depth. It communicates with the See also:sea by a narrow outlet, which can be opened or closed at See also:pleasure. The See also:lake is See also:crown See also:property, and is of See also:great value from the See also:fish and See also:wild-See also:fowl with which it abounds. See also:Rice is grown in large quantities by the inhabitants of the adjoining villages. In 1812 See also:Marshal See also:Suchet was created See also:duke of Albufera by See also:Napoleon for his See also:con-quest of Valencia, and invested with the domain; but the See also:battle of See also:Vittoria in 1813 deprived him of his See also:possession, though he still retained the See also:title. Subsequently the revenues of Albufera were conferred upon the duke of See also:Wellington in token of the gratitude of the See also:Spanish nation.
