ALREDUS, ALURED or ALUREDUS, OF See also:BEVERLEY, was sacristan of the See also:church of Beverley in the first See also:half of the 12th See also:century. He wrote, apparently about the See also:year 1143, a See also:chronicle entitled Annales sive Historia de gestis regum Britanniae, which begins with See also:Brutus and carries the See also:history of See also:England down to 1129. This See also:work was edited by T. See also:Hearne (See also:Oxford, 1716), and at one See also:time enjoyed some reputation as an authority. It is, however, a See also:mere compilation and of no value. See also:Geoffrey of See also:Monmouth and See also:Simeon of See also:Durham are Alured's See also:chief See also:sources. Among the Cottonian See also:MSS. there is a collection of records See also:relating to Beverley, Libertates Ecclesiae S. Johannis de Beverlae, which is attributed to Alured, but on no See also:good authority. (H. W. C.
