After acquiring See also:great skill and reputation as a modeller in See also:alabaster, he went in 1797 to See also:Paris, where he studied See also:painting under See also:Desmarets, and afterwards See also:sculpture under F. F. Lemot. The bas-See also:relief " Cleobis and Biton," with which he gained the second See also:prize of the See also:Academy in 18os, at once established his fame as a sculptor and gained for him a number of influential patrons. He executed many See also:minor pieces for See also:Denon, besides busts of Maul and See also:Cherubini. His great See also:patron, however, was See also:Napoleon, for whom he executed a See also:colossal bust, and who sent him to See also:Carrara to found a school of sculpture. Here he remained till after the fall of Napoleon, and then took up his See also:residence in See also:Florence, where he resided till his See also:death. His See also:works are varied and include an immense number of busts. The best are, perhaps, the See also:group of Charity, the " See also:Hercules and Lichas " and the " Faith in See also:God," whsrh exemplify the highest types of Bartolini's See also:style.
