CARPI , a See also:town and episcopal see of See also:Emilia, See also:Italy, in the See also:province of See also:Modena, 9 M. N.N.W. by See also:rail from the town of Modena. Pop. (1905) 7118 (town), 2,7,135 (See also:commune). It is the junction of a See also:branch See also:line to Reggio nell' Emilia via See also:Correggio, and the centre of a fertile agricultural See also:district. Carpi contains several See also:Renaissance buildings of See also:interest, the See also:facade of the old See also:cathedral (an See also:early Romanesque See also:building in origin, with some early 15th-See also:century frescoes), the new cathedral (after 1513), perhaps the See also:nave of S. Niccolo and a See also:palace, all being by Baldassare See also:Peruzzi: while the See also:prince's palace. (with a See also:good See also:court and a See also:chapel containing frescoes by Bernardino Loschi of See also:Parma, 1489—1540) and the colonnades opposite the See also:theatre are also good.
