CLARK, See also:THOMAS (1801—1867) , Scottish chemist, was See also:born at See also:Ayr on the 31st of See also:March 18o1.. In 1826 he was appointed lecturer on See also:chemistry at the See also:Glasgow See also:mechanics' See also:institute, and in 1831 he took the degree of M.D. at the university of that See also:city. Two years later he became See also:professor of chemistry in Marischal See also:College, See also:Aberdeen, but was obliged to give up the duties of that position in 1844 through See also:ill-See also:health, though nominally he remained professor till 186o. His name is chiefly known in connexion with his See also:process for softening hard, See also:waters, and his See also:water tests, patented in 1841. The last twnty years before his See also:death at Glasgow on the 27th of See also:November 1867 were occupied with the study of the See also:historical origin of the Gospels.
