city and the See also:county-seat of See also:Brown county, See also:South Dakota, U.S.A., about 125 M. N.E. of See also:Pierre. Pop. (189o) 3182; (1900) 4087, of whom 889 were See also:foreign See also:born; (1905) 5841; (1910) 10,753. Aberdeen is served by the See also:Chicago, See also:Milwaukee and St See also:Paul, the See also:Great See also:Northern, the Minneapolis and St See also:Louis, and the Chicago and See also:North Western See also:railways. It is the See also:financial and See also:trade centre for the northern See also:part of the See also:state, a See also:fine agricultural region, and in 1908 had five See also:banks and a number of wholesale houses. The city is the seat of the Northern Normal and See also:Industrial School, a state institution, and has a See also:Carnegie library; the See also:principal buildings are the See also:court See also:house and the See also:government buildings. Artesian See also:wells furnish See also:good See also:water-See also:power, and artesian-well supplies, See also:grain pitchers, brooms, chemicals and See also:flour are manufactured. The See also:municipality owns and operates the water-See also:works. Aberdeen was settled in 188o, and was chartered as a city in 1883.
