Pop. (Igor) 11,227. It is the See also:terminus of steamer See also:navigation on the Brahmaputra, and also of a railway See also:running to important See also:coal-mines and See also:petroleum See also:wells, which connects with the Assam-Bengal See also:system. Large quantities of coal and See also:tea are exported. There are a military See also:cantonment, the headquarters of the volunteer See also:corps known as the Assam Valley See also:Light See also:Horse; a See also:government high, school, a training school for masters; and an aided school for girls. In 1900 a medical school for the See also:province was established, out of a See also:bequest leftby See also:Brigade-Surgeon J. See also:Berry-See also:White, which is maintained by the government, to See also:train See also:hospital assistants for the tea gardens. The See also:Williamson See also:artisan school is entirely supported by an endowment.
