He was a See also:pupil of the See also:schools of the See also:National See also:Academy of See also:Design, New See also:York, and in 1872 went to See also:Paris, where he studied in the Ecole See also:des See also:Beaux-Arts under J. L. Ger6me. He made the acquaintance of J. F. See also:Millet at See also:Barbizon, and was also influenced by his friend Jules Bastien-Lepage. After his return to the See also:United States in 1876 he became a teacher in See also:Cooper See also:Institute and opened a studio in New York See also:city. He was one of the organizers (and the first secretary) of the Society of American Artists. Among his portraits are those of See also:William See also:Cullen See also:Bryant and See also:Timothy See also:Cole, the See also:wood engraver (" The See also:Man with the See also:Violin "). Eaton died at See also:Newport, Rhode See also:Island, on the 7th of See also:June 1896.
