The See also:castle contains an interesting collection of weapons and pictures, and in the See also:chapel are the coffins of See also:Einhard, the friend and biographer of See also:Charlemagne, and his wife, Emma. Erbach has See also:long been the See also:residence of the See also:counts of Erbach, who trace their descent back to the 12th See also:century, and who held the See also:office of cupbearer to the See also:electors See also:palatine of the See also:Rhine until 18o6. In 1532 the See also:emperor See also:Charles V. made the See also:county a See also:direct See also:fief of the See also:Empire, on See also:account of the services rendered by See also:Count See also:Eberhard during the Peasants' See also:War. Since 1717 the See also:family has been divided into the three lines of Erbach-Ftirstenau, Erbach-Erbach and Erbach-Schonberg, who See also:rank for See also:precedence, not according to the See also:age of their descent, but according to the age of the See also:chief of their See also:line. In 1818 the counts of Erbach-Erbach inherited the county of Wartenberg-See also:Roth, and in 1903 the count of Erbach-Schonberg was granted the See also:title of See also:prince. The county was mediatized in 18o6, and is now incorporated with the duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt.
