EUPHORBIUM , an acrid dull-yellow or See also:

brown See also:resin, consisting of the concreted milky juice of several See also:species of See also:Euphorbia, See also:cactus-like perennial See also:plants indigenous to See also:Morocco. It dissolves in See also:alcohol, See also:ether and See also:turpentine; in See also:water it is only slightly soluble. It consists of two or more resins and a substanceeuphorbone, C20H36O or C15H24O. See also:Pliny states that the name of the See also:drug was given to it in See also:honour of See also:Euphorbus, the physician of See also:Juba II., See also:king of See also:Mauretania. In former times euphorbium was valued in See also:medicine for its drastic, purgative and emetic properties.
