Church Missionary Society. The unsettled See also:state of the See also:country and his own See also:ill See also:health prevented his making much headway; he returned to See also:Europe in 1835 and from 1839 to 1842 lived in See also:Malta, where he supervised an Arabic See also:translation of the See also:Bible. In 1846 he was consecrated See also:Protestant bishop of Jerusalem, under the agreement between the See also:British and Prussian governments (1841) for the See also:establishment of a See also:joint bishopric for See also:Lutherans and Anglicans in the See also:Holy See also:Land. He carried on a vigorous mission as bishop for over See also:thirty years, his diocesan school and orphanage on See also:Mount See also:Zion being specially noteworthy. He died on the 11th of May 1879.
