The finest examples of the grille are those known as the rejas, which in See also:Spanish churches See also:form the enclosures of the chapels, such as the reja in the Capilla Real at See also:Granada in wrought iron partly gilt (1522). Similar grilles are employed to protect the ground-See also:floor windows of mansions not only in See also:Spain but in See also:Italy and See also:Germany. In See also:England the most beautiful example is that in front of See also:Queen Eleanor's See also:tomb in See also:Westminster See also:Abbey, in wrought iron. The finest grilles in Italy are the enclosures of the tombs of the Della Scalas at See also:Verona (end of 13th See also:century), in Germany the grille of the See also:cenotaph of See also:Maximilian at See also:Innsbruck (See also:early 16th century) and in See also:France those which enclose the See also:Place See also:Stanislaus, the Place de la See also:Carriere and the churches of See also:Nancy, which were wrought by See also:Jean Lamour in the See also:middle of the 18th century. Generally, however, throughout Germany the wrought iron grilles are See also:fine examples of See also:forging, and they are employed for the enclosures of the numerous fountains, in the tympana of gateways, and for the See also:protection of windows.
