GUARDIAN , one who See also:

guards or defends another, a See also:protector. The O. Fr. guarden, See also:garden, mod. gardien, from guarder, garder, is of See also:Teutonic origin, from the See also:base See also:war-, to protect, cf. O.H. Ger. warten, and Eng. " See also:ward "; thus "guardian" and " See also:warden " are etymologically identical, as are " guard " and " ward "; cf. the use of the correlatives " guardian " and " ward," i.e. a See also:minor, or See also:person incapable of managing his affairs, under the See also:protection or in the custody of a guardian.
