HAWKHURST , a See also:

town in the See also:southern See also:parliamentary See also:division of See also:Kent, See also:England, 47 M. S.E. of See also:London, on a See also:branch of the See also:South-Eastern & See also:Chatham railway. Pop. (19o1), 3136. It lies mainly on a See also:ridge above the valley of the Kent Ditch, a tributary of the Rother. The neighbouring See also:country is hilly, See also:rich and well wooded, and the pleasant and healthy situation has led to the considerable See also:extension of the old See also:village as a residential locality. The Kent See also:Sanatorium and one of the See also:Barnardo homes are established here. The See also:church of St See also:Lawrence, founded from See also:Battle See also:Abbey in See also:Sussex, is Decorated and Perpendicular and its See also:east window, of the earlier See also:period, is specially beautiful.
