HELMOND , a See also:

town in the See also:province of See also:North See also:Brabant, See also:Holland, on the small See also:river Aa, and on the See also:canal (Zuid-See also:Willems Vaart) between 'sHertogenbosch and See also:Maastricht, 242 M. by See also:rail W.N.W. of See also:Venlo. It is connected by See also:steam See also:tramway with 'sHertogenbosch (21 M. N.W.), a See also:branch See also:line northwards to Osch being given off at Veghel. Pop. (1900) 11,465. The See also:castle of Helmond, built in 1402, is a beautiful specimen of See also:architecture, and among the other buildings of See also:note in the town are the spacious See also:church of St See also:Lambert, the Reformed church and the town See also:hall. Helmond is one of the See also:industrial centres of the province, and possesses over a See also:score of factories for See also:cotton and See also:silk See also:weaving, cotton See also:printing, See also:dyeing, See also:iron See also:founding, See also:brewing, See also:soap boiling and See also:tobacco dressing, as well as See also:engine See also:works and a See also:margarine° factory.
