INDIANOLA , a See also:

city and the See also:county-seat of See also:Warren county, See also:Iowa, U.S.A., about 18 m. S. by E. of See also:Des Moines. Pop. (189o) 2254; (1900) 3261; (1905) 3396; (1910) 3283. It is served by the See also:Chicago, See also:Burlington & See also:Quincy and the Chicago, See also:Rock See also:Island & Pacific See also:railways. Indianola is the seat of See also:Simpson See also:College (coeducational, Methodist Episcopal, 1867), with a college of liberal arts, an See also:academy, a school of See also:education, a school of business, a school of shorthand and typewriting, a conservatory of See also:music, a school of See also:oratory, a school of See also:art and a military academy. In 1908 the college had 32 instructors and 905 students. The city lies in a See also:rich farming region, and has a considerable See also:trade in See also:butter and eggs, vegetables and fruits, and in See also:coal, See also:lumber and live stock from the surrounding See also:country. Indianola was laid out and was selected as the county-seat in 1849, and See also:building began in the following See also:year; it was incorporated as a See also:town in 1864, and was chartered as a city of the second class in 1884.
