It lies several See also:miles off the road, now abandoned by wheeled See also:traffic, between See also:Changra and See also:Amasia in a picturesque cul de See also:sac amongst wooded hills, at the See also:foot of a See also:limestone See also:rock crowned by the ruins of an See also:ancient fortress now filled with houses (photograph in See also:Anderson, Studia Pontica, p. 4). Its ancient name is uncertain. Near the town (on S.) are saline springs, whence See also:salt is extracted.
