There are over 30 mosques in the town, a See also:dervish monastery, and numerous theological colleges (medresses) , and the Moslem inhabitants have a reputation for bigotry. The See also:climate though subject to extremes of See also:heat and See also:cold is healthy; in See also:winter the roads are often closed by See also:snow. The population of r6,000 includes about 2500 Christians. Castamon became an important See also:city in later See also:Byzantine times.
