IVARR , BEINLAUSI (d. 873), son of Ragnar Lothbrok, the See also:

great See also:Viking chieftain, is known in See also:English and See also:Continental See also:annals as Inuaer, Ingwar or Hingwar. He was one of the Danish leaders in the See also:Sheppey expedition of 855 and was perhaps See also:present at the See also:siege of See also:York in 867. The See also:chief incident in his See also:life was his See also:share in the martyrdom of St See also:Edmund in 87o. He seems to have been the See also:leader of the Danes on that occasion, and by this See also:act he probably gained the epithet " crudelissimus " by which he is usually described. It is probable that he is to be identified with Imhar, See also:king of the Norsemen of all See also:Ireland and See also:Britain, who was active in Ireland between the years 852 and 873, the See also:year of his See also:death.
