JALAUN , a See also:town and See also:district of See also:British See also:India, in the See also:Allahabad See also:division of the See also:United Provinces. Pop. of town (1901), 8573. Formerly it was the See also:residence of a Mahratta See also:governor, but never the headquarters of the district, which are at Orai.
The DISTRICT OF JALAUN has an See also:area of 1477 sq. M. It lies entirely within the level See also:plain of See also:Bundelkhand, See also:north of the See also: (1901), 399,726, showing an increase of 1%. The two largest towns are Kunch (15,888), and See also:Kalpi (10,139). The district is traversed by the See also:line of the See also:Indian Midland railway from See also:Jhansi to See also:Cawnpore. A small See also:part of it is watered by the Betwa See also:canal. See also:Grain, oil-seeds, See also:cotton and ghi are exported. region on the western slopes of the sierras; CocuIa (7090 in 1895); and Zacoalco (6516). See also:Jalisco was first invaded by the Spaniards about 1526 and was soon afterwards conquered by Null() de Guzman. It once formed part of the reyno of Nueva See also:Galicia, which also included Aguas Calientes and See also:Zacatecas. In 1889 its area was much reduced by a subdivision of its coastal See also:zone, which was set apart as the territory of See also:Tepic.
