Coming to See also:Paris in 1790, he associated himself with Bernardin de St See also:Pierre. After being twice imprisoned during the Terror he retired to See also:Brittany, where he devoted him-self to literature till 1814. In 1818 he returned to Paris as See also:deputy for See also:Finistere, and sat in the Chamber till 1824, becoming one of the recognized liberal leaders. He was re-elected in 1827, took an active See also:part in the See also:establishment of the See also:July See also:monarchy, was appointed a councillor of See also:state (183o), and in 1837 was made a peer of See also:France. After the coup d'etat of 1851 he retired from public See also:life. Among his publications were Conies et Idylles (1791); Lysus et Cydippe, a poem (18o1); Inductions morales et physiologiques (1817); Documents pour servir d l'histoire de France (182o); Du Beau clans See also:les arts d'See also:imitation (1822); Le Dernier See also:des See also:Beaumanoir (1824). His last See also:work, Clarisse (1854), a novel, was written when he was eighty-five. He died at See also:Port-Marly on the 7th of See also:November 1859. His son, comte Emile de Keratry (1832– ), became deputy for Finistere in 1869, and strongly supported the See also:war with See also:Germany in 287o. He was in Paris during part of the See also:siege, but escaped in a See also:balloon, and joined See also:Gambetta. In 1871 See also:Thiers appointed him to the prefecture, first of the Haute-See also:Garonne, and subsequently of the Bouches-du-See also:Rhone, but he resigned in the following See also:year. He is the author of La Contre-guerilla francaise au Mexique (1868) ; L' See also:Elevation et la chute de l'empereur Maximilien (1867); Le Quatre-septembre et le gouvernement de la defense nationale (1872); Mourad V.
