There are several See also:biographies of him, the first of which See also:dates back to the 9th century (Bibliotheca hagiographica See also:latina, Nos. 466o—4663). According to Maurus Kilian was a native of See also:Ireland, whence with his companions he went to eastern Franconia. After having preached the See also:gospel in Wurzburg, the whole party were put to See also:death by the orders of an unjust See also:judge named Gozbert. It is difficult to See also:fix the See also:period with precision, as the judge (or See also:duke) Gozbert is not known through other See also:sources. Kilian's comrades, See also:Coloman and Totman, were, according to the Wurzburg necrology, respectively See also:priest and See also:deacon. The See also:elevation of the See also:relics of the three martyrs was performed by Burchard, the first bishop of Wurzburg, and they are venerated in the See also:cathedral of that See also:town.
