LIBRARY ASSOCIATIONS AND TRAINING The first and largest association established for the study of librarianship was the See also:

American Library Association (1876). The Library Association of the See also:United See also:Kingdom was formed in 1877 as an outcome of the first See also:International Library See also:Conference, held at See also:London, and in 1898 it received a royal See also:charter. It publishes a See also:Year See also:Book, the monthly Library Association See also:Record, and a number of professional handbooks. It also holds See also:examinations in See also:Literary See also:History, Bibliography and Library See also:Economy, and issues certificates and diplomas. There are also See also:English and Scottish See also:district library associations. The Library Assistants Association was formed in 1895 and has branches in different parts of See also:England, See also:Wales and See also:Ireland. It issues a monthly See also:magazine entitled The Library Assistant. There is an important Library Association in See also:Germany which issues a year-book giving See also:information concerning the See also:libraries of the See also:country, and a similar organization in See also:Austria-See also:Hungary which issues a magazine at irregular intervals. An Association of Archivists and Librarians was formed at See also:Brussels in 1907, and there are similar See also:societies in See also:France, See also:Italy, See also:Holland and elsewhere. In every country there is now some See also:kind of association for the study of librarianship, archives or bibliography. International conferences have been held at London, 1877; London, 1897; See also:Paris (at See also:Exhibition), 1903; St See also:Louis, 19041 Brussels (preliminary), 1908; and Brussels, 1910.
