MANDASOR, or MANDSAUR , a See also:town of Central See also:India, in the native See also:state of See also:Gwalior, on the See also:Rajputana railway, 31 M. S. of See also:Neemuch. Pop. (1901), 20,936. It gave its name to the treaty with See also:Holkar, which concluded the Mahratta-Pindari See also:War in 1818. It is a centre of the See also:Malwa See also:opium See also:trade. Mandasor and its neighbourhood are full of archaeological See also:interest. An inscription discovered near the town indicated the erection of a See also:temple of the See also:sun in 437, and at Sondani are two See also:great monolith pillars recording a victory of Yasodharma, See also:king of Malwa, in 528. The fort See also:dates from the 14th and 15th centuries. See also:Hindu and Jain remains are numerous, though the town is now entirely See also:Mahommedan.
