N. of See also:Mhow. Pop. (19o1) 21,588. In 1857 it was the most southerly See also:place to which the See also:Mutiny extended. The See also:brigade of native troops of the See also:Bengal See also:army, which was stationed there, mutinied and marched to See also:Delhi, the See also:European See also:officers taking See also:refuge in the fort, where they were besieged by a See also:rebel force from See also:Mandasor, and defended themselves gallantly until relieved by the See also:Malwa See also:field force. Since 1895 it has been the headquarters of the See also:political See also:agent in Malwa.
