MOCHA See also:

STONE , a name applied to See also:chalcedony with dendritic markings, said to have been obtained originally from Mocha in See also:Arabia. The markings which sometimes simulate with curious fidelity the See also:form of See also:miniature trees and shrubs, are caused by the infiltration of solutions carrying See also:iron and See also:manganese, which are deposited as thin films of See also:oxide along the cracks of the stone, producing See also:black, See also:brown or red dendrites, effectively disposed on a ground of See also:grey or See also:white chalcedony. Most of the Mocha stones of See also:commerce are obtained from See also:India, where they are found among the See also:agate-pebbles resulting from the disintegration of the See also:trap rocks of the See also:Deccan. In See also:recent years the formation of dendrites has been artificially effected at the agate-See also:works of See also:Oberstein, so as to imitate the true Mocha stones.
