Here, on the See also:bridge over the Yonne, See also:Jean Sans-Peur, See also:duke of See also:Burgundy was assassinated in the presence of the Dauphin, afterwards See also:Charles VII., in 1419. In 1438 the town was captured by Charles VII., and during the See also:wars of See also:religion it was several times taken and retaken. In 1814 See also:Napoleon gained a victory at Montereau over the See also:Wurttemberg troops under .See also:Schwarzenberg, and in memory of this his statue has been erected on the bridge.
