See also:coast of the Black Sea. Pop. (1900) 40,384. The bay, nearly 3 M. wide at its entrance on the E., and 5 M. deep from E. to W., is exposed to the N.E. See also:wind (See also:bare), which sweeps down from the See also:Caucasus Mountains with See also:great violence. There is an artificial See also:harbour (1893) protected by a See also:mole. Novorossiysk is connected by a See also:branch railway to Tikhoryetskaya (169 m.) with the See also:main Caucasian See also:line, which crosses the See also:Volga near See also:Tsaritsyn, and has become an important centre for the export of See also:corn, and since the See also:petroleum See also:wells of See also:Groznyi in See also:northern See also:Caucasia were tapped it has become an See also:entrepot for the export of petroleum.
