After being manager of the theatres in See also:Mannheim and See also:Frankfort he retired to See also:Jena, where in 1883 he was given the honorary degree of See also:doctor of See also:philosophy. In 1884 he was. appointed director of the See also:court See also:theatre in See also:Oldenburg, andin 1889 director of dramatic plays in Berlin.
